No. 8 Fumyozan Kumadani-ji

Kumadani-jiHistory and origin of

When Kobo Daishi was training in this land, kami of the three main Kumano shrines in Kishu appeared and told him "Give salvation for a long time to the sentient beings" and bestowed to him a golden Kannon statue. Daishi said three prayers after each stroke of the blade and carved the Senjū Kannon and put the golden Kannon into the womb and made this the principal image. The gate of Nio (Kongorikishi) is one of the largest in the Shikoku hallowed ground and erected in Jokyo year 4 (1687). The Tahōtō (jeweled pagoda) is also the oldest and of the largest scale in Shikoku.
