Jyoraku-jiHistory and origin of

Among all the Shikoku hallowed ground, it is the only temple where Maitreya is the principal image. When Kobo Daishi was training the secrets of the mantra in this area, it is said that the Maitreya, with many Bodhisattva in tow, came to welcome the spirits of the dead. Daishi quickly realized it and carved the statue of a noble character on a sacred tree, and founded a temple. The statue enshrined on top of the sacred tree of Araragi to the right of the main hall is called "Araragi Daishi" and is said to benefit people with diabetes and eye disease.
