No. 22 Hakusuizan Byodo-ji

Byodo-jiHistory and origin of

While Kobo Daishi was training in this area, five colored spirit clouds appeared in the sky and golden Sanskrit characters appeared in the cloud. When the Daishi incanted the Sanskrit, then the statue of Bhaiṣajyaguru next appeared. When the Daishi, in order to pray, dug a well in one corner of the grounds, a white milky water started to flow. The mountain name is derived from this water, and the temple name is infused with the wishes that people will equally be saved. To commemorate the convalescence of the disease, a "box car" is dedicated to the main hall.
