Located on the top of the Gyodozaki Cape, the precinct is covered with a quiet primeval forest of vertebra trees. It is one of the three mountain temples in Muroto and is also popularly known as "Nishi-dera". When it was founded, it was called Kongo-joji and forbidden to women. In the Shosoin style treasury and spirit treasury are "gilt bronze Tabidangu" and other numerous designated important cultural property from when Kobo Daishi traveled the country during the Heian Period.
