No. 2 Nisshozan Gokuraku-ji

Gokuraku-jiHistory and origin of

While Kobo Daishi was training in this area, it is said he had felt the Amida Nyorai and carved the image as a principal image. It is said that the light emitted by the image reached up to Nagahara off the coast of Naruto, and an artificial mound was created in front of the main hall to block the light from the image so it would not hinder the fishing in the ocean, and this mountain was called "Nisshozan" (sunshine mountain). Introduce Buddha statues and mandala diagram from after the middle ages. Within the precinct is a 31m tall, 6 m circumference long living cedar that is said to have been planted by Kobo Daishi.
