No. 47 Kumanozan Yasaka-ji

The temple was built by Ochi Tamaoki, the provincial governor of the Country of Iyo, by the imperial prayer of Emperor Mommu (reign 697~707) during the Asuka Period. About 100 years later, Kobo Daishi rebuilt the temple that was devastated. Then enshrined from a division of Kami of the three main Kumano shrines in Kishu and the 12 shrines, it becomes the root dojo of the Shugendō, and was also referred to as the Kumano Yasaka temple. The temple name was derived from the fact that slopes in eight locations were opened. In the basement of the main temple, an Amitabha has been enshrined that has been dedicated from followers from all over the country.
