No. 53 Sugazan Enmyo-ji

Enmyo-jiHistory and origin of

By the imperial prayer of Emperor Shomu (reign 724~749), it is said that this temple started when Gyoki built the large complete seven-structured temple compound. Later, Kobo Daishi revived the temple that was devastated as a Fudasho if hallowed ground. It is also known for the early Edo period copper plate charm, the oldest in the Shikoku hallowed ground discovered by an American pilgrim, and the Christian lantern with the image of the Virgin Mary in relief.
