No. 54 Chikamizan Enmei-ji

Gyoki carved the Acala statue which is said to be the incarnation of the Nyorai Buddha as a principal image, and established and built the temple on the imperial prayer of Emperor Shomu (reign 724~749). Kobo Daishi received an imperial order from Emperor Saga (reign 809~823), revived the temple as a central dojo for faith and academia, and as an imperial prayer temple. The temple gate is the castle gate from Imabari Castle that was relocated during early Meiji Period. In the precinct are many andromeda trees and for one month from around the spring equinox, pretty white flowers bloom and entertains the worshipers.
