Taisan-jiHistory and origin of

Long ago, in this land, every year during the rainy season the Soshakawa River flooded over and tormented the villagers. Kobo Daishi visited this area and built an embankment together with the villagers and taught them the secrets of the earth and sand cultivation, and on the day of fulfillment the Enmei Jizo-bosatsu appeared and relayed that the flood control prayer was fulfilled. Daishi carved the principal image of Kshitigarbha that he sensed, and built a temple and named it Taisan-ji.
