No. 57 Futozan Eifuku-ji

Eifuku-jiHistory and origin of

While Kobo Daishi was on a preaching tour of Shikoku, and stopped in this land, he conducted a homa prayer and austerities on top of the Futozan for the wind and waves in the inland sea, and marine disasters. On the fulfillment day the wind and waves calmed down and the figure of Amida Nyorai drifted in the sea. It is said this Amida Nyorai figure was carried to the top of Futozan and a temple was built, and enshrined as the principal image. A book of stamps (each confirming donation to a temple on a pilgrimage) from Kansei year 12 (1800) also remains.
