The only place in the Shikoku hallowed ground where the principal image is the Bishamonten. When Kobo Daishi was doing a preaching tour in this land, he saw a hinoki cypress that emitted a single ray of light, and sensed that it was full of pneuma. It is said that Daishi carved a Bishamonten as the principal image using this sacred tree and also Kisshoten and Zennishi-doji as side temples and enshrined them and prayed for salvation for the poor and distressed and founded this temple.
