No. 85 Gokenzan Yakuri-ji

Yakuri-jiHistory and origin of

It is located on the eighth station of Gokenzan, and just to the back of the precinct is a steep towering peak. Many of the pilgrims climb using a cable car. When Kobo Daishi was conducting prayers and austerities in this mountain, a five swing sword descended from heaven, Zaougongen appears and revealed that it is the sacred location of Buddhism. Daishi then buried the sword in the mountains, and named it Gokenzan as the guardian. The Shoutendou to the front of the approach has gathered faith as "Shouten-san of Yakuri-ji" miraculous for matchmaking, academic achievement, and thriving (prosperous) business.
