The only place in Shikoku hallowed ground that has the Bato Kannon Bosatsu as the principal image. Kobo Daishi founded the temple with the imperial prayer of Emperor Heize. Originally it was called Chofuku-ji and legend is, that the main hall was built by Daishi in one night. In the vast precinct is the main hall which is a national treasure, the Nio (Kongorikishi) gate, the five-story pagoda, Chinjudo, Taishido, Juodo, Akado (Dainichido), Ireido, bell tower, reception hall and such are located, reminiscent of the bygone days when this large temple flourished.
