One of the legends of Kobo Daishi's childhood is involved in the founding of Shusshaka-ji. When Daishi was 7 years old, he had an awakening that he wanted to go into Buddhism and save people and threw himself off the high cliffs of Gahaisizan. "If my wishes will come true, Shaka Nyorai appear before me. If not, then I dedicate my body to Buddhas." Then the Shaka Nyorai and an angel came down from the sky and gathered Daishi in their arms.
