No. 75 Gokakuzan Zentsu-ji

Zentsu-jiHistory and origin of

This is the head temple of Shingon Zentsu-ji sect, known as the land where Kobo Daishi was born. This is one of Kobo Daishi's three major Reiseki (spiritual locations) along with Koyasan in Wakayama and To-ji in Kyoto. Kobo Daishi who returned from Tang, on a section of land donated to him from his father, completed a complete seven-structured temple compound modeled after Shoryu-ji in Choan, which took 6 years to complete. The name of Zentsu-ji is from his father's name "Yoshimichi" where the Chinese character "Yoshi" also reads "Zen".
