It is well known as an academic temple where learned monks and learned priests gather, and was said to be Tosa's premier famous temple. 
The main hall, called Monshudo was built in the early Edo Period and is designated as an important cultural property. There are 17 bodies of important cultural property designated Buddha statues from Fujiwara Period to the Kamakura Period in the treasury and is the treasure trove of cultural property in the prefecture. The garden that is said to have been created by Muso Kokushi is definitely a winner for the country.
