No. 24 Murotozan Hotsumisaki-ji

Hotsumisaki-jiHistory and origin of

First Fudasho of Kochi Prefecture "dojo of asceticism". When Kobo Daishi was 19 years old, and training at the Mikurodo caves at Muroto Cape, a bright star shining in the sky dived into the mouth and he perceived that he achieved Gumonjiho (ascetic practices for having a good memory). Then, the year after he returned from Tang, he visited Muroto Cape again, and carved the Akasagarbha as the principal image, and built the main hall, and founded the temple. Hotsumisaki-ji is known as "Higashi-dera" (east temple) and the 26th Kongocho-ji is known as "Nishij-dera" (west temple).
