No. 4 Kokuganzan Dainichi-ji

Dainichi-jiHistory and origin of

In Konin year 6 (815), Kobo Daishi, while spending a long time here doing training, he felt the Nyorai Buddha. Daishi is said to have carved the image with three prayers after each stroke of the blade, and initially founded the temple with this as the principal image. Rebuilt in the Oei Period (1394-1428). On the Nyorai Buddha which is the principal image, the Oei period is written in sumi ink. The temple is located in a tranquil place surrounded on three sides by mountains, and the red lacquer painted main gate stands out in the background greenery. This main gate is the bell tower gate, an unusual structure where the first floor is in an angled shape, and the second floor is in a circular shape.
