No. 9 Syokakuzan Horin-ji

Horin-jiHistory and origin of

In Konin year 6 (815) Kobo Daishi who was touring the area found a white snake. Because the white snake is a messenger from Buddha, Daishi is said to have carved a Nirvana image of Buddha and opened the temple with this as the principal image. This is the only Buddha in a sleeping form of all the principal images in the eighty-eight locations. Because a person who could not walk without crutches experienced a miracle, it is also known as the temple to pray for healthy legs.
