No. 15 Yakuozan Kokubun-ji

Kokubun-jiHistory and origin of

One of the Kokubun-ji built all over the country on the imperial order of Emperor Shomu (reign 724-49). A statue of Gautama Buddha and a "large Prajnaparamita" presented by Emperor Shomu were housed, and a memorial tablet of Empress Kōmyō was enshrined in the main hall. Cornerstone of a tower and such have been excavated from the temple area and it has been designated as a historic site of Tokushima Prefecture. The garden decorated with a huge rock is a masterpiece, and was designated as a national scenic spot in 2000.
