No. 42 Ikkazan Butsumoku-ji

Butsumoku-jiHistory and origin of

While Kobo Daishi was on a preaching tour of this land, he met an old man pulling a cow. When he sat on the back of the cow as invited, he found a jewel that was emitting light on the top of a large camphor tree. This was the jewel that Daishi threw toward the east from Tang together with the trident vajra. It is said that it originated when Daishi sensed that this land was a sacred land, and built a temple. It has a thatched roof bell tower and Ireido for livestock, the only one in the Shikoku hallowed ground. In honor of the cow, it has gathered faith as the guardian of other livestock and pets.
