No. 50 Higashiyama Hanta-ji

It is located on a hill overlooking Matsuyama Castle, Matsuyama city to the Seto Inland Sea. It is said that Gyoki Bosatsu carved a Bhaiṣajyaguru statue and enshrined it and established a temple on the imperial prayer of Empress Kouken (reign 749~758). When Kobo Daishi was preaching in the area, he sojourning here and determined it as hallowed ground. Ippen Shonin, the founder of the Jishu sect also confined himself to pray here. During the Edo Period, the 4th shogun, Tokugawa Ietsuna enshrined the Buddhist image of Nandikesvara.
