No. 83 Shingozan Ichinomiya-ji

Ichinomiya-jiHistory and origin of

This temple was founded by Gien Sojo who built the foundation of the prosperity of Nara Buddhism, and at that time was called Daihouin. During the Wadō Period, when establishing Ichinomiya-ji in the country, Gyoki repaired this temple and it became Ichinomiya-ji on Singozan. To the left side of the main hall is a small Hokora (Small Shrine) with the Bhaiṣajyaguru enshrined. This is called "Jigoku no gama" (pot in hell) and it is said that if one sticks his head in the Hokora (Small Shrine), he may open the border but if he is doing something bad, then he would not be able to pull out his head anymore.
