No. 77 Sotazan Doryu-ji

Doryu-jiHistory and origin of

When it was first founded, this area was a vast mulberry field. According to auspiciousness, it started when the local lord Wake Michitaka cut a large mulberry tree and carded a Bhaiṣajyaguru and built a thatched cottage. Choyu, the child of Dozen begged Kobo Daishi after Kobo Daishi returned from Tang to carve a 90cm tall Bhaiṣajyaguru and put the statue of Dozen in it's womb and made this the principal image. Choyu built the complete seven-structured temple compound and took his father's name and named the temple Doryu-ji. "Hoshi Manadala Zu" from the Kamakura Period (important cultural property) is stored here.
