No. 5 Mujinzan Jizo-ji

Jizo-jiHistory and origin of

Kobo Daishi initially opened the temple by the imperial prayer of Emperor Saga (reign 809~23). An Enmei Jizō Bosatsu (about 5.5 cm) which is said to have been carved by Daishi himself has been enshrined as the principal image. Many warlords such as Minamoto no Yoritomo, Yoshitsune as well as the Hachisuka clan have made donations. There are many pilgrimage related materials, and is very important when learning about how the Fudasho (temple issuing amulets) and pilgrimage used to be before Shinen Yuben. The large ginkgo tree casting a large leafy shade over the precincts is more than 800 years old. In the Gohyakurakando, the inner shrine, an actual size Arhat statue shows a unique expression.
